ABC/Randy HolmesChance the Rapper and Kanye West have collaborated on several tracks in the past, and now Kanye will produce Chance’s new album in their hometown, Chicago.
Chance says he’s honored that Kanye, who recently has been doing all his recording in Wyoming, is coming back home to the Windy City to work with him.
“Working with him on his albums is crazy," Chance said on the ABC Chicago affiliate show Windy City Live. "But having him tell me that he wants to produce my album and come to Chicago and work with me and stuff...Kanye West is like my first image of a free black man in the industry."
Chance also revealed that he admires Kanye, Donald Glover and Jamie Foxx for their versatility.
“Kanye and Donald are my two biggest mentors cause they are the definition of multifaceted,” he said. “And not just Kanye West and Donald Glover, I always forget to say his name Jamie Foxx."
Chance collaborated with Cardi B on the song "Best Life" on her Invasion of Privacy album, and he said he’s very close to her and her husband Offset.
"Her and Set’s relationship is just is one of the realest relationships." he said. "I’ve always looked to Set to call him or talk to him about relationship advice."
Chance recently announced he’s engaged to his girlfriend Kirsten Corley, and he said after receiving some negative feedback on social media, he hopes to keep his personal life more private.
"It immediately makes you wanna shy away from the public and have more moments to yourself," Chance said. "But as an artist, I feel like it gave me a lot to work with because it showed me how small of a perspective everybody can have with the little information they get about my life."
