ABC/Rick Powell John Legend is one step closer to joining the very exclusive club of 12 entertainers who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award, known as EGOT, with his nomination Thursday for Jesus Christ Superstar Live In Concert.
Legend was nominated for Lead Actor in a Limited Series or a Television Movie for portraying the title role in the special which aired April 1 on NBC.
The 39-year-old singer/actor tweeted a simple “Thank you,” while his wife, Chrissy Teigen, was much more enthusiastic.
Teigen tweeted, “Dad is thrilled… 13 nominations for Jesus Christ Superstar this morning! John got two emmy nominations! If he wins, he will complete his EGOT and my spike tv award will probably be moved. But it’s ok I AM SO PROUD!"
In addition to his nomination for Lead Actor, Legend could win a second Emmy because Jesus Christ Superstar Live In Concert is also nominated for Outstanding Variety Music Or Comedy Special.
Legend has won ten Grammy Awards, and an Oscar for Outstanding Song for “Glory” with Common from the film Selma. He also won a Tony as a co-producer of the Broadway play Jitney which won Best Revival of a Play in 2017.
Teigen is also excited because her show Lip Sync Battle is up for an Emmy for Outstanding Structured Reality Program.
“MORE IMPORTANTLY (because it’s me) LIP SYNC BATTLE WAS ALSO NOMINATED,” she tweeted.
